Kate Galloway
I didn't scare your mother by showing up on the roof, did I?
STATISTICS
NAME Katherine Jane GallowayTHE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE
AGE 27
DOB August 15
HEIGHT 5'3"
BUILD Athletic, pear-shaped
HAIR Hip length, naturally brown, dyed pink, between wavy and curly, dry texture
EYES Deep, warm brown with amber flecks
It's got to be the hair. Usually pulled up in a bun on top of her head, it's a bright pink beacon. Some days, it is styled into various types of braids — from twin french plaits to much more intricate updos. If her hair is worn loose, it means you've either caught her before a shower or in some serious emotional turmoil.
ABILITIES & SKILLS
SUPERHUMAN PHYSICALSSuperhumans, as implied by the name, are more than human. They are more durable, can run and jump faster and generally exceed the physical limits of human capability. However, like humans, superhumans still need to train to be able to do any of it. Due to Kate's athletic nature, as well as her profession, she has certainly trained, particularly in the areas of speed and agility, making her capable of moving at high speeds and leaping tall buildings in a single bound (okay, maybe a typical two storey house).TELEPATHYKate's basic power. She's a capable telepath who excels in sending telepathic messages, rather than invading minds, and can span the width of a city to contact anyone she knows. Her power cannot be used on strangers she cannot physically see.POWER SENSINGAnother form of psychic detection, allowing Kate to identify those with supernatural powers in the immediate area. This detection is limited to those with biological powers (i.e. technological implants wouldn't register) as well as a general overview of the type of ability — for example, being able to detect that a person has fire related powers, but not specifically how those powers manifest (whether they can shoot fire, breathe fire, psychically start fires etc).POWER DISRUPTIONNew and shiny, Kate can use her power to disrupt others', allowing her to negate attacks by using it as a shield, or using it more offensively by touching the other party. This power requires physical contact to work — meaning that she can't block psychic attacks, or attacks using another object as a weapon (for example, telekinetically throwing something at her).
CURRENT INFORMATION
Undergoing rework, please be patient with changing details.
PERSONALITY
Some might say that Kate seems unflappable, that things very rarely shake her. She keeps a tight lid on what she's feeling or thinking at any one time, usually by answering things with as few words as possible and containing emotional responses to various shades of irritated. In other words, she rarely makes a good first impression if encountered alone. Encountered with a friend or trusted companion, however, and sparks of something more lighthearted, competitive and even mischievous can be seen.
And, in her own way, she prefers making a bad impression. The loss of her parents and the lack of any support or help afterwards (beyond being shoved into the foster system for a few months) scarred Kate more deeply than she'd care to admit, and the result was avoiding and replacing all grief with anger, bad behaviour, and copious amounts of alcohol and weed. She grew more terrified of losing others, particularly her brother, causing Kate to shun making new attachments for fear of losing them, while becoming unhealthily codependent on her only remaining family.
Kate thinks of this behaviour as practical, as she considers her only remaining purpose in life to be to make sure Marc is alive and happy.
APPEARANCE
At five foot three inches, Kate carries herself with the knowledge that every inch is important. Which means great posture and hip-length hair piled high on top of her head. Despite it all, she has never been seen in high heels for more than three minutes, all of which involved copious amounts of complaining.
In terms of fashion, comfort and movement is key. Athletic from the moment she could walk, Kate eschews skirts and reaches for jeans, leggings, or denim shorts whenever she can. Vest tops, sports bras, and hoodies are on frequent rotation, and her outfits are finished with either trainers, or an ancient, beat up pair of knee-high leather boots (no heel, obviously). Despite already bright hair, Kate's clothing colour palette is usually bright, with her usually reaching for yellow, orange, or red hoodies.
Thanks to time often spent outside, patches of Kate's skin which aren't hidden by clothing are usually tanned in summer. She bares several scars across her body, including at her ribcage and on her limbs, thanks to the limitations of supernatural healing. Two scars of particular note are a burn on her upper left arm, which doesn't seem to heal over, and a cut on her scalp which stretches to her hairline, as though the corner of a sharp object struck her.
Further identifying marks, thanks to her brother's love of tattoos, are two tattoos of her own. The first is an orgiami stylised elephant tattoo on the back of her neck, and an intricate piece heavily featuring lavender flowers spanning from her right hip to her thigh.

HISTORY
Kate's parents adopted Kate a brother when she was five, and they were like night and day. Kate, too active to enjoy school, and Marc, who quickly became the class prodigy. Despite that and the rocky start of suddenly having a strange child dividing her parents' attentions, Kate quickly grew fond of her dumbass brother, and soon enough, they were just like any other family.
Apart from the superpowers, but even that was normal in their community.
The siblings continued their time at school and it seemed all but guaranteed that Marc would soon be at a top ranking university and Kate would be snatching countless athletic medals and trophies.
But life had other plans.
When Kate and Marc were fifteen, their parents went to attend a friend's wedding a couple of hours away. On their route driving home, the road they were on was attacked and demolished in a coordinated effort by the monsters underground. Their parents were among the numerous fatalities sustained, and the two quickly found themselves shuffled into foster care.
Neither took it particularly well, though Kate's reaction was far more evident than her brother's. Her interest in athletics competition took a sharp nosedive and her tolerance of schooling turned to outright hate, often skipping classes, getting into arguments with the teachers and storming off, or simply joining the kids who liked to drink and smoke on the school grounds.
Eventually, when she ended up in the third physical fight of the week, she was expelled. She was shuffled into another school — a primarily human school — and managed to keep her behaviour under control enough to finish her exams there before leaving academics at sixteen and drifting into various entry level jobs, none of which held her interest for very long. But soon enough, her brother — who had continued his education — came to her with an idea.
That he wanted to join The Agency, an organisation dedicated to protecting the country from supernatural threats — both superhumans who decide to break the law and the monsters underground. The country is getting more dangerous, in Marc's eyes, as the number of monster attacks has continued to increase since the attack which killed their parents. Kate is sceptical, but with no better prospects on the horizon and her brother arguing so passionately for the cause, she agrees to apply and they are both successful, immediately being placed on the field team for the Supernatural Defence Department (the department which deals with the monsters underground), headed by Julia Rosenberg, The Agency's boss.
In their first year, the siblings learn to fight and meet senior members Jay, Alicia and Diane before moving onto field work, which is largely hunting down monsters which escape the underground before they can possess any unsuspecting humans, as well as being sent underground to clear out monster nests before they can harm anyone. Kate, who is no fan of the job and there entirely because of her brother, eventually does what she does best:
Acts out, frequently arguing with Rosenberg over any perceived slight she can find, such as being overworked or sent out with insufficient information. Her attitude earns her multiple instances of punishment sessions — mostly designed to separate Kate from her brother and trap her inside. As a result, Kate spends more time down in Research & Development and the prisons than she would ever like, doing various jobs with a lot of downtime and no immediately practical applications, which is more than enough to get her to behave for a little while.
But she also sees more of the lengths The Agency will go to in order to meet their goals. Whether that's R&D given free reign to use prisoners to test their research, or the interrogations being more torture than questioning (how any prisoner sleeps with that damn flickering light in the lowest levels of the prison she does not know). She grits her teeth and continues to rely on the numbing powers of alcohol to drag her through the worst parts of the job, reminding herself that her only interest here is Marc's safety.
Kate's time in The Agency progresses in a relatively routine manner until Marc, along with their co-worker Carl, is sent to Scotland to investigate and clear out a monster nest near Inverness. They discover that the nest is empty, but more impressively that there are rumours of an especially powerful Superhuman in the vicinity.
Enter Faith. A ball of sunshine with the abilities of a Phoenix, who Marc allows to crash at his and Kate's flat while she moves cities and secures a position in their department, much to Kate's displeasure. But Faith is a good flatmate, and endlessly positive, even in the face of Kate's bristling, and quickly ingrains herself among the rest of the group.
Kate admits that Faith is an important Superhuman and deals with it. Deals with her summer sun smile and musical laughter. And so the missions progress, as do the nights out and the time spent, and Kate watches her brother start dating Ranvir, the head of the Superhuman Law Enforcement side of the Agency.
She continues to stand silently in the background, drinking too much and devoting herself to her brother's safety, his goal of removing the dangerous monsters from the world, unsure what she really believes and finding herself speaking to Faith more and more after their sparring sessions. During one of their many sessions, Kate feels the first touches of power development, sensing the flares of Faith's powers before she uses them.
After training her new power, Kate begins to more actively lead missions and Christmas comes, the group meeting at Alicia and Diane's place as they always do, but sans Marc, who is with Ranvir and on his way. A bridge on the way collapses and the group rushes over, Kate in a panic. Marc, thankfully, is unharmed, and the rest of Christmas day is spent cleaning up the mess.
( Note to self: add the bit where Carl drags her into investigating the disappearances )
It isn't until they're back in work that they discover that Ranvir has been killed.
> Somewhere along the line Kate figures out that Marc did it and confronts him, promising to keep his secret regardless. Just tell her the truth.
> Marc sells the group out
> Kate gets abducted and taken to the Agency's prison after sleeping with Faith, Marc convincing everyone that Kate ran away bc emotions / cowardice
