( She wishes there was a faster way through this. If there is, she hasn't discovered or thought about it, so instead, she's stuck manually guessing at configurations, trying again and again with increasing frustration.

This is getting really old, really fast. )

What kind of instability are we talking about?

( She works on yet another configuration for the umpteenth time in about ten minutes as she asks that. Is she looking at powers that are blocked, ones that are spilling out uncontrollably? A mix of both, which would be more frustrating? She can probably balance one or the other problem out with an enchantment, but a mix of both would be trickier. )

( Luckily, she's so engrossed in her own work that she doesn't think too much about his waking sleep, or comment on it. And also, quite luckily, that explanation of his power helps her try something new.

It doesn't get the full intensity, the complete picture, but something sparks when she looks through the glasses, and Kate's expression softens, brightens.

Success. Or at least, a breakthrough. )

She tries another formula, taps another code into the glasses, and looks again.

Judging by the fact that she immediately rips the glasses off and blinks hard, trying to wash the light from her eyes? It worked. )

( She's fine, just. A minute. She wasn't expecting the sheer intensity of that. Like Faith's powers, but worse. And she barely likes keeping her glasses on around Faith. )

It worked. Want to see?

( It might be easier to demonstrate what his powers look like through hers than to explain it. )

( She hands over the glasses, and whenever Shadow puts them on and looks at any part of his body, he'll see... well, his powers are pretty disorienting. )

Not seen owt like it.

( But that seems to be the case with everyone whose powers she's seen. At least she doesn't sound discouraged by it, because with Shadow's explanation and the ability to see how they're moving... she thinks she has an idea. But it'll take time to make sure everything works perfectly. )

( Yeah, it's a sight even she didn't expect. People's powers look different to how powers manifest back home, but the sight of what Shadow's look like is beyond anything she expected to see at all.

Her lips purse together as she chances another glance through her sunglasses and folds them up, hooking them into her t-shirt's neckline before grabbing a piece of paper and a pen, scribbling notes on it. )

Gonna try and make something to drain off a bit of your power. Should balance it out.

( she taps the pen against her palm for a moment in thought. Not knowing what Shadow's powers look like when they're stable means this is going to be a bit more guesswork than it would at home.

(Although, at home, she'd be recommending courses of medication, not trying to make enchantments to replicate those effects). )

These problems only started when you got here, aye?

( She nods, noting down everything he says about his inhibitors before saying anything. )

You've got more power than you need. Easiest way is to drain some of it, store it somewhere else.

( Exhaling, Kate continues. )

Normally just prescribe medication for it, but-

( Well. She gestures to the house that passes for a clinic, cobbled together out of bits and pieces of scavenged materials.

They're not exactly rolling in superhuman medications here. )

( Have a brow raise, Shadow. She thinks you sound ridiculous. )

You'd come back, guessin' with your powers as they are now.

( Kate, don't be an asshole. )

More to th' point, if you can't control it, you don't need it. ( Just saying. ) Not if it's dangerous. This is the best option I have for you.

( It's feasible that she'd be able to find a way to limit powers with her enchantments, but that would require more work, waiting. Practice. )

( She looks between her notes and him, taps her pen against a palm repeatedly, and exhales. )

Gonna need some time to make summat. And test it. ( It shouldn't take too long. She has the data she needs on Shadow's powers and the actual enchantment is similar to what she uses for the healing cells, just without the release mechanism. But all the same, better safe than sorry when playing with someone's powers. )

( Way to catch her short, Shadow. Kate blinks, looking back at him from her notes, from whatever she's scribbling, and tilts her head. )

Just that you come back if summat goes wrong.

( Hey, she has some morals. Those being that things relating to a person's health - hedgehog's health. Powers are part of health - shouldn't be charged for. (But then, there's no real economy here, anyway.)
