[So Connor's been putting off visiting the Clinic, fortunately not because he needs any medical attention or anything, but he wants to ask some questions that might be... Suspicious. But he's feeling confident enough at this point to go ahead and show up, dressed in slightly better fitting clothes now but still with a beanie pulled down over his LED, focusing on the first person who seems to know what they're doing.]
Hello. I was hoping to ask a few questions, if you have time?
( It's easy enough to pick Kate out as staff, simply because she's usually found looking through shelves and making notes. But she also moves through the place as easily as she breathes - and of course she should, she was responsible for this building being created in the first place.
Not the organisation, but the building itself.
Brown eyes flick up from the notebook in her hand and Kate shifts things into one arm to gesture towards the office. It's an easy place to talk without getting in the way of any actual medical work. )
[Okay, good, somewhere private is probably best and indicates she isn't inclined to go telling anyone and everyone anything that might be confidential, so that's... Encouraging, he supposes.
So once they're in the office he answers, getting right to the point.]
I've met a number of people here whose physiology differs drastically from humans, and I wanted to ask what exactly the Clinic is capable of treating in terms of those individuals.
[It isn't accusatory or anything; he does get that supplies are limited here, and if most people are human then they're probably more knowledgeable about focused on taking care of those sorts of people. But he does want to know what he's dealing with, in case he ever needs to find help for others in the future or if he ends up being seriously damaged himself.]
( That's an issue nearer and dearer to Kate's heart than this kid could realise, and she taps her pen idly against the desk, comfortably sat behind it despite the chair being far larger and more rounded than necessary for any human, let alone someone that short. )
Depends what they need. ( Her words are slow, thoughtful, a total contrast to the sharp, quick way she greeted him just a moment ago. ) We have people with healing powers that can help non-humans.
( Or, at least, she's not been told that anyone's ran into problems healing anyone.
A breath, and Kate thinks of a stash of notes kept safely in her house. )
Some people've approached us to give details on their physiology. Helps us know what to do for first aid.
( She tilts her head. )
This a personal question?
( After all, he looks about as human as most here. )
['Healing powers' sounds great in theory, but Connor can't help but be skeptical of it working on the kind of people he's talking about. He can tell by the way she's talking that she's put thought into this whole thing, though, and that's at least something even if her direct question is one he can't bring himself to answer truthfully just yet.
But he's an excellent liar, and answers smoothly; nothing about his tone or expression would give anything away, but he's aware this situation is still suspicious enough to warrant potential doubt.]
I joined the Guard and met one of its leaders, Nick. His condition made me wonder about the lack of essential components, or lack of people who know how to conduct repairs, and I'm aware there are other beings like him in the city as well. It seemed important to know what was and wasn't possible here, should one of those individuals end up in harm's way.
[Especially since, you know, the whole 'being part of the guard' thing. He might also be continuing to try to gauge the population's concern for its non-human--especially obviously nonhuman--members, and this is an indicator that's definitely bothering him and he wants to know more details on.]
( Well, "healing powers" is an incredibly general term for a massive variety of things, even before you take into account the different universes and their varieties. Kate would happily discuss the whole thing if asked, but since he explains meeting Nick, she holds off, nodding slightly as a hand comes up to her chin. )
Mm. Always caught him doing his own repairs. ( She assumes he has help beyond that, but she can't say for sure.
Come to think of it, she's not sure if any of the staff here know much about mechanics. She'll have to ask them one day. ) The lab is more equipped to help people there.
[Connor is just... Going to try not to feel frustrated with this answer, because he doesn't think Kate is meaning to come across as dismissive; of course humans--or beings similar to humans--wouldn't consider taking care of mechanical-based beings to be something a clinic should handle. Of course it wouldn't be seen as a medical issue, but a technological repair.
He isn't really surprised, but he is somewhat disappointed.]
( Honestly, the concept of robotics becoming that advanced in the first place was something reserved for movies and television shows in Kate's home. Even after all this time in Hadriel, she's had minimal exposure to the more synthetic beings in this place, and they can't exactly force anyone to come to the clinic if they don't want to. )
I spoke with her, yes. I'll stop by the lab, then, for more information.
[He actually feels like it might be safe enough to tell Alphys the truth, which is an added bonus, so although he isn't super pleased with the whole thing it also isn't as bad as it could be.
That settled, he's pretty much accomplished what he can here to do, although he decides to ask another question before he leaves.]
I was also wondering: how do you supply the Clinic? Supplies seem to be difficult to find in the stores.
( Alphys is far more competent with technology than Kate could hope to be, so it's better to ask her, as far as Kate's concerned. )
A lot of searching. ( The answer is given smoothly, her eyes casting back down the corridor to the supply closet. Not entirely true, but Ronan's involvement with the clinic has been kept quiet for as long as Kate's been here and she doesn't plan on changing it. It's his decision if he wants to explain his abilities to people. ) Or ask the gods.
[That lines up with what he knows of how this place works, so he isn't particularly suspicious. He'd mostly asked for confirmation of an answer he already knew--or at least thought he knew--anyway.]
Which of the gods do you recommend dealing with if it's necessary to ask them for something?
[Just entertaining the thought is prompting an unpleasant feeling that seems like it's coming from deep in his biocomponents, even if that makes no sense. But feelings in general don't make a lot of sense anyway, so he tries to ignore it.]
( You and everyone else, Connor. Kate hasn't been able to shake than unease since Delight's betrayal, barely speaking to the gods now, despite the fact that she still believes they're a resource worth using.
Her eyes flick down in thought for a moment. )
Confusion's useless. ( As she pretty much hates everyone. ) Usually ask for their emotion. Depends what you find easiest.
( In this city? Rage is a pretty good bet, really. )
[Connor is quiet at that for a few moments, considering that response and the implications with which gods are available. Rage would definitely be easy--he's constantly pissing people off unintentionally, and intentionally would be even simpler--and Fear wouldn't be difficult either, but what does that say about him? Does he want to encourage that sort of behavior in himself, especially in the service of one of the beings responsible for them being here? Even if it's for something essentially and vitally important?
He isn't sure, yet, and fortunately he doesn't need to make the decision right away. So for now he just nods in understanding, responding politely--]
Nothin' to thank me for. ( It's as useful for Kate to know that people are caught up on how things work in this city as it is for them to learn it. And Connor may have given her one or two things to think about, with regards to the idea of helping the synthetic members of the city. )
[Action] just randomly hitting up your inbox oops lemme know if this doesn't work or something

it always works ;D

...Sure. What's up?

Alphys, I think. You met her?
